Watercolour works

A series of watercolour paintings previously exhibited at Black Rock Gallery. This series by artist Trace Nelson uses different icons to collectively form a female figure and suggest one of many feminine models, the crown standing in for the head, the bra and panties for the torso and the shoes for the legs and feet. How these objects are depicted suggests various options for women reflecting their sexuality. The works create an imagined space for the feminine body without showing the body, without objectifying the female body. "As women, we are constantly defining and re-defining our image. Our bodies are the site of this formation of meaning, we may create ourselves many times over within our lifetimes. A woman may re-invent herself as a queen1, animal, angel, devil-doll, goddess or other archetype," says Trace Nelson.
